IS SEX A SIN?
Sex was the greatest gift that God gave to man, from the beginning of creation. However, most Christians have the mistaken idea that sex is a sin—or a result of sin. Both resolutions are false, absolutely false.
Sex is God's design, and God does not design poetry. But in order to understand this, you must first understand that: The Law of God is not abolished. The law of God is what gives the definition to every moral rule. Paul put it this way:
7 What shall we say then? Is the law a sin? In no way. But I did not know sin except through the law; for neither would I know covetousness, unless the law said, Thou shalt not covet. —ROMANS 7:7
In brief, Jesus said that to get to heaven you must keep His law (Rev. 22:14-15), and tells you that the way you show that you love him and serve him is by keeping his law (JOHN 14:15). For more information about this, read the following article, Jesus “vs.” Paul and the Law: What Happened on the Cross, where—irrefutably, we present—with Bible in hands, that the law of God was not abolished.
Once we understand that, we can study sex from a moral perspective, as God has established. God's law tells you that sex is not a sin, but—quite the contrary, the very law of God—which represents his character, tells you that sex is holy. Paul put it this way:
5 Don't deny each other, except for some time by mutual consent, to occupy yourself calmly in prayer; and come together again as one, so that Satan may not tempt you because of your incontinence. —1 CORINTHIANS 7:5
Essentially, Paul is commanding married couples to have sex, under God's blessing and statutes. It also tells us that incontinence can become a tool that the devil will use to make us sin. Paul makes the exception of those who have the gift of being eunuchs, since these do not have sex, of their own free will. Not having sex in itself is not a sin. But, not everyone has the gift of incontinence, and that is why—Paul, emphatically recommends getting married, Well, under marriage, sex is a blessing:
8 I say therefore to the unmarried and the widows, that it would be good for them to remain as I am;
9 But if they do not have the gift of continence, get marriedWell, it is better to get married than to be burning. —1 CORINTHIANS 7:8-9
In other words, if sex is a sin, then we can say that Paul is commanding us to sin. And let's not forget that,
4 Everyone who commits sin also breaks the law; because sin is a violation of the law. —1 JOHN 3:4
It is very logical that Paul commands us to get married and have sex, since this is keeping the law:
12 So THE LAW TO TRUTH IS HOLY, and the holy, just and good commandment. —ROMANS 7:12
And if the law is holy, there can be no sin in the Law, but only in its transgression. And marriage is steeped in the heart of God's law. Take the fifth commandment for example:
12 HONOR YOU FATHER ALREADY YOU MOTHER, so that your days may be long in the land that the Lord your God gives you. —EXODUS 20:12
Here we see God giving instructions to a son, who is begotten by his parents—having sex. If what many say is true, then the Law is a sin, because in order to first honor your father or mother, they first have to have sex (“sin”), so that you can be born, grow up, and then honor them. .
The second commandment also presents a marriage with children,
5 No TEA You will not bow down to them, nor honor them; for I am the Lord your God, strong, jealous, visiting the iniquity of the PARENTS Over the CHILDREN to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me,… — EXODUS 20:5
Also the fourth,
10 But the seventh day is a rest to the Lord your God; do not do any work in it, YOU, nor you SON, nor you DAUGHTER, nor your servant, nor your maid, nor your beast, nor your stranger who is within your gates. —EXOO 20:10
The seventh commandment commands you not to commit adultery against your partner. In other words, it commands you—well this is a commandment, to only have sex with your partner (heterosexual, obviously).
14 You shall not commit adultery. —EXODUS 20:14
The tenth commandment commands you not to lust after another woman or man other than your own, for sex.
17 You shall not covet your neighbor's house, you shall not covet your neighbor's wife, nor his servant, nor his maid, nor his ox, nor his donkey, nor anything of your neighbor. —EXODUS 20:17
So we see that sex is an integral part of God's law, and you who say that sex is a sin. Well, we have a basic problem. What is the only definition of sin in the entire Bible?
4 Everyone who commits sin ALSO BREAKS THE LAW; well sin is breaking the law. —1 JOHN 3:4
If there is no law, there is no sin. It is the violation of the Law that is sin, and sex is in the law!
In the Bible, everything revolves around the Law, in one form or another. Now, let's go to the beginning:
28 And God blessed them, and said to them: FRUCTIFIED and MULTIPLY; FILL the earth, and subdue it, and have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over all the living things that move on the earth. —GENESIS 2:28
So one of the first orders that God gave to Adam and Eve was to have sex to have children and fill the earth. You can't have children if there is no sex. And this command came long before man sinned. If sex is a sin, then God commanded Adam and Eve to sin. And if this were the case, then we have a vile and unjust God who punishes his children for doing something that he himself told them to do in the first place.
Yes, we know that Cain and Abel were begotten after sin (GENESIS 4:1), but this has nothing to do with sex, because—once again, God had already said, “BE FRUITFUL and MULTIPLY; FILL the earth,….” If Adam and Eve had not sinned—violating the law of The Ten Commandments, Cain and Abel would have been begotten in holiness, then—and again, God said first, “BE FRUITFUL and MULTIPLY; FILL the earth,” before sin existed.
How can sex be a sin, when through it men like Enoch, Samuel, Daniel and the three Hebrews came into the world; also Mary, mother of Jesus on earth. But you will say, “Mary did not have sex with Joseph to conceive Jesus.” Indeed, that's how it is. We know that Mary's pregnancy was the fruit of the Holy Spirit (LUKE 1:42), but let's not forget that Mary is THE FRUIT OF THE SEXUAL RELATIONSHIP between a man and a woman. This means that if sex is sinful, it was necessary for two people to sin (Mary's parents), so that Mary could be born, and she in turn gave birth to Jesus. This means that Jesus is the fruit of sin!
Jesus came into this world with a body in a sinful nature—with a tendency to sin, as a consequence of Adam's transgression. We know that he died on the cross as a consequence of sin; he paid the price for our transgression (ROMANS 6:23), but Jesus never sinned:
15 For we do not have a high priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who was tempted in every way like us, but withoutsin. —HEBREWS 4:15
Many confuse sex in adultery with sex in holiness. In adultery or fornication, it is not the sex that is a sin, but the fact that you are having sex with someone you should not—who is not approved by God. The first commandment of God's Law commands us not to have other gods before him. Worship in itself is not a sin; to gild another being other than God, is what constitutes sin, and—therefore, a violation of His law.
Remember that thanks to Sex we have the Bible, because God inspired his word to men and women that came from the fruit of a sexual relationship between a man and a woman. So, do not be afraid—walk in holiness (Heb 12:14), and fulfill this mandate, “BE FRUITFUL and MULTIPLY; FILL the earth.”
God bless you.
