If one thing is nothing and neither is the other, then, for a child of God, the purpose of everything is salvation. Now, Paul says that “everything,” indirectly and implicitly, is keeping the Commandments of God—His holy Law!

Although circumcision is also a work, by Paul's time it no longer had any importance since it was replaced by the work of believing and being baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. Am I saying that before you didn't have to believe? No. I am saying that the constituency was no longer and is not necessary.

Am I right in saying that when Paul speaks of circumcision and uncircumcision as nothing, then he is indirectly adding a “everything” to keeping God's Law? Of course!

Solomon, a man whose knowledge no one can surpass in this world (1 KINGS 3:13), said:

13 The end of all discourse is this: Fear God, and keep his Commandments; because this is the everything of man. —ECLESIASTES 12:13

Let us remember that Solomon's wisdom was not acquired in school or through his years of life, it was spontaneous, given directly by God. He knew what he was saying. His great wisdom was enough to write that keeping the Law was everything.

Being that he was the most knowledgeable man the world had, did Solomon ever relate the Law to Salvation?

2 Keep my Commandments and you will live [I WILL SAVE YOU]; and my Law as the apple of your eye. —PROVERBS 7:2

Salvation is by grace (the Law), by faith (obedience to the Law), and by the name (HEBREWS 4:12) of Jesus, whose character is his Law.

We could mention thousands of nicknames given to salvation, but they are all summed up by one thing, the Law of God.
