Does The Holy Spirit Exist or Does It Not Exist?
This article is in reference to a quote from the prophet Ellen G. White, who is circulating on social networks and who questions the divinity of the Holy Spirit, and which many use to deny its existence.
I also write in reference to arguments I have had with some people and that is why you will notice some personal tone when I address someone in the conversation:
“Praying and worshiping another being called the third in divinity, the Holy Spirit, apart from The Father and His Son, is a grave error, a sin against God and His Holy Law. ”The Father and the Son alone must be exalted. Ellen White, RH July 7,1898.
This is the site that is spreading it: https://www.facebook.com/notes/alessandra-gould/citas-no-trinitarias-parte-2/728670477192201/
But here we have the real quote:
” The Father and the Son alone are to be exalted.” —YI, July 7, 1898 Page 272.
This quote—here in red letters, is not completely faithful, since something was added to it that is not part of it and it was even put in quotes as part of the quote. That's not an explanation, it's manipulation, even if the context is correct. If it is not part of the quote, it should not be enclosed in quotes. If it is an explanation, it should be defined as such. We also notice how the phrase “holy spirit” is arbitrarily put in lowercase letters, thus explicitly lowering its divinity, just as the Jehovah's Witnesses do with Jesus, calling him a god, and not God.
You should not worship a third party, since we understand that the Bible does not teach that. However, this does not mean that the Holy Spirit does not exist and much less that he is not God. Nor can you use the writings of Ellen G. White to get that right, since she spoke quite clearly about it. Where you are totally wrong is in your belief that the Holy Spirit is Jesus Christ—Matthew 3:16-17 categorically denies this.
Truly you talk a lot, but you say very little. You have a lot of confusion. For your own good, I first recommend that you do a detox treatment and eat healthier, turn off the television and stop “putting unclean things before your eyes.” Also fast—and above all, ask for revelation and mercy from above, and maybe—and just maybe, mercy will be given to you. And God will clear up so much confusion that is in your head. This is a lot to ask, since it is the Holy Spirit that leads us to all truth, and you are denying it. But for God there is nothing impossible.
Your problem is that you are ignoring a fundamental principle of the word of God: God's Order of Things Is Not Altered. Yes, our God has established rules that—if they are violated, we can fall into abysmal confusion. And this is exactly your case.
To start, The word Trinity does not have a biblical root. And not knowing this, people begin to connect dots that the Bible does not connect. The word Trinity is a Catholic invention with the purpose of one day altering the order established by God, eventually introducing Mary as part of it.
The Bible tells us about the Divinity, not the Trinity. And The divinity of God is composed of God the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. But here is an order that if violated can cause a lot of confusion. The prophet Ellen White wrote the following—and here we present the quote in its correct form:
“The Father and the Son alone must be exalted.” —REVIEW HERALD, July 7,1898
Many come across this and other similar texts and fall into the serious error of denying the divinity of the Holy Spirit. However, the Bible teaches us that the Holy Spirit is God (Acts 5:1-4).
So we have that only the Father and the Son receive praise. And we can see this pattern throughout biblical writing. You should not pray or worship the Holy Spirit, and the Bible shows us the following order:
19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of Son, and of Holy Spirit; —MATHEW 28:19
And we find this order again during the baptism of Jesus:
16 And Jesus, after he was baptized, he immediately came up out of the water; and behold, the heavens were opened to him, and he saw the *Spirit of God* that descended like a dove, and came upon him.
17 And there was a voice of the Heavens, which said: This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. —MATHEW 3:16-17
This is God's order, and should not be touched. The Bible shows numerous occasions where the Holy Spirit spoke (e.g. Acts 13:2), however there is not a single biblical case where any character communicated directly with the Holy Spirit. Not in prayer, and not in worship. Jesus emphasized that our prayers should be directed to the father, in his name (Jesus):
23 On that day you will not ask me anything. Truly, truly, I say to you, whatever you ask the Father in my name, he will give it to you. —JOHN 16:23
So we see that Ellen White's words are easily verified with Biblical scripture: The Holy Spirit is not to receive worship, for this is spiritualism. This is a false doctrine promoted by the Emerging Church movement and the Catholic church.
It may be difficult for us to understand that the Holy Spirit is not to be praised, but the Bible is silent on that point, and it is clear in signs who are to receive worship. But if you still have doubts, let the Bible explain itself:
13 And to everything created that is in heaven, and on the earth, and under the earth, and in the sea, and everything that is in them, I heard saying: To Him who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb, be praise, honor, glory and power, forever and ever. —REVELATION 5:13
The Holy Spirit is a mystery of which little has been revealed (Deut. 29:29). But nevertheless it is God. This is the one who leads us into all truth (John 15:26), and by which we must all be baptized (Matt. 3:11):
It is not essential for us to be able to define precisely what the Holy Spirit is. Christ tells us that the Spirit is the Comforter, “the Spirit of truth who proceeds from the Father.” It is clearly stated regarding the Holy Spirit, that in his work of guiding men into all truth “he will not speak on his own authority.” John 15:26; 16:13.
The nature of the Holy Spirit it's a mystery. Men cannot explain it, because the Lord has not revealed it to them. Men who entertain fantastic opinions can collect passages of Scripture and give them human interpretation; but the acceptance of those concepts will not strengthen the church. Regarding these mysteries, too deep for human understanding, silence is golden. —YOU WILL RECEIVE POWER, p.13
Their position that the Holy Spirit is The Spirit of Christ (which is not another person) is not very different from that of Jehovah's Witnesses, who claim that it “is an active force of God.” These are just some texts that refer to the Holy Spirit. To eliminate these from the Bible, it would fall into total disharmony:
Psalms 51:11, Isaiah 63:10, Matthew 1:18, Matthew 3:11, Matthew 12:22, Matthew 12:32, Metho 28:19, Mark 1:8m, Mark 3:20, Mark 3:29, Mark 13:11, Luke 1:15, Luke 1:35, Luke 1:41, Luke 1:67, Luke 2:25-26, Luke 3:16, Luke 3:22, Luke 4:1, Luke 11: 13, Luke 12:10, Luke 12:12, John 1:33, John 7:39, John 14:26, John 16:4, John 20:22, Acts 1:11, Acts 1:5, Acts 1: 8, Acts 1:16, Acts 2:1, Acts 2:4, Acts 2:33, Acts 2:38, Acts 4:8, Acts 4:31, Acts 5:3, Acts 5:32, Acts 6: 3, Acts 6:5, Acts 7:51, Acts 7:55, Acts 8:15, Acts 8:17, Acts 8:18, Acts 8:19, Acts 9:17, Acts 9:31, Acts 10: 38, Acts 10:44-45, Acts 10:47, Acts 11:15-16, Acts 11:24, Acts 13:2, Acts 13:4, Acts 13:9, Acts 13:52, Acts 15:8 , Acts 15:28, Acts 16:6, Acts 19:2, Acts 19:26, Acts 20:23, Acts 20:28, Acts 21:11, Acts 28:25, Romans 5:5, Romans 8:27 , Romans 9:1, Romans 14:17, Romans 15:13, Romans 15:16, 1 Corinthians 6:19, 1 Corinthians 12:3, 2 Corinthians 6:6, 2 Corinthians 13:14, Ephesians 1:13, Ephesians 1:15, Ephesians 3:5, Ephesians 4:30, Ephesians 6:18, 1 Thessalonians 1:5-6, 1 Thessalonians 4:8, 2 Thessalonians 1:14, Titus 3:5, Hebrews 2:4, Hebrews 3:7, Hebrews 6:4, Hebrews 9:8, Hebrews 10:15, 1 Peter 1:12, 1 Peter 2:5, 1 Juam 5:7, Jude 1:20, Rev 11:11, Rev. 2:7
As I mentioned at the beginning, it is impossible to deny the divinity of the Holy Spirit using the writings of Ellen White or the Bible, unless you manipulate the text, which you are consciously or unconsciously doing. God will be the one who will judge your heart. But the light has already come to him, and he has no excuses to continue walking in error. Once again, this was written by the messenger of God, who did receive divine light, which neither you nor I can question. There are three persons in the Divinity, and both the Bible and the Spirit of Prophecy affirm it:
“Our sanctification is the work of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. It is the fulfillment of the covenant that God has made with those who commit to him, to remain with him, with his Son and his Spirit in holy communion. Have you been reborn? Have you become a new being in Christ Jesus? Then cooperate with the three great powers of heaven that work on your behalf”—CBA, vol. 7, p. 920
“When you gave yourselves to Christ you made a promise in the presence of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit: the three great personal Dignitaries of heaven”—CBA, vol. 7, p. 971
“The fact that you have been baptized in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, is a guarantee that if you ask for their help, these powers will help you in every emergency” (EG White, Jewels of the Testimonies, t . 2, p. 396).
“There are three people living in he trio heavenly; In the name of these three great powers – the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit – those who receive Christ through faith are baptized” (EG White, Evangelism, p. 446).
“The eternal Deity, the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, is involved in the action required to give security to the human instrument.” —LIFT YOUR EYES, p. 146
“When the Christian takes the baptismal vow, he is promised divine help. The Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit are ready to work on your behalf.” —LIFT YOUR EYES, p. 171
The promise of the Holy Spirit is not limited to any age or race. Christ declared that the divine influence of his Spirit would be with his followers to the end. From the day of Pentecost until now, the Comforter has been sent to all who have given themselves fully to the Lord and his service. —The Acts of the Apostles, 40.
I could continue writing, but I do not write this to convince you, but as a faithful follower of Christ and out of love for you—as a brother or sister in Christ, I have the duty to tell you what the scripture reveals—and it is the same Holy Spirit who reveals the truth to him. Only those who genuinely seek the truth will be impressed.
God desires to give life to his people by the gift of his Holy Spirit, baptizing them anew in his love. There need not be a lack of the Holy Spirit in the church. After the ascension of Christ, the Holy Spirit descended upon the waiting, praying, and believing disciples with a fullness that reached every heart. In the future, the earth is to be illuminated with the glory of God. A divine influence must emanate from those who are sanctified by the truth and reach the world. The earth is to be surrounded with an atmosphere of grace. The Holy Spirit must work in human hearts, taking the things of God and revealing them to men. —The Southern Watchman, September 5, 1905. —CHRISTIAN SERVICE, p.310
This is a matter of salvation. Repent before it's too late.

And you will know the truth...

At the end of the council, the emperor Theodosius issued a decree for his empire, declaring that the churches must restore those bishops who had confessed the equality in the divinity of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.
How sad it makes me to see your obstinacy brother...
Well, friend, if presenting the truth is what you call being stubborn, then go ahead with the adjective. We accept it with great humility.
